A Bit of Broadway - 11x17 final

Message from Musical Director David Klob

“Steps of Faith”

Two years ago this month, my family and I loaded up our minivan in Sussex, NB – our home for the previous 14 years – and headed west to Calgary. Following God’s leading, we began a new chapter in our lives. I was going to say that it was a “step” of faith, but actually, it felt more like a giant “leap” of faith, accompanied by a unique mixture of curiosity, a bit of apprehension, and a whole lot of excitement.

Here we are, two years later, and we are marvelling at the incredible journey God has taken us on. We love the story God is writing for our family here in Calgary and we learned that stepping out in faith and following God’s leading is the best way to live.

And now I find myself at the beginning of another new chapter – this one involving a group of passionate musicians known as New West Symphony & Chorus. It’s another step of faith for me, and I realize it’s a step of faith for them as well (maybe more of a leap?), and that we’re probably all feeling a bit of that same mixture of curiosity, apprehension, and excitement. I know I am. But with each meeting, e-mail and phone call, I learn more about this dynamic team and sense a growing affinity in my spirit for what they do, and for who they are. I love the depth of commitment they have for this group, the depth of musical excellence for which they strive, and the depth of their love for their New West “family”. I certainly believe that God has ordered our steps together “for such a time as this,” and I am thrilled to be giving musical leadership to the group for this next season. I know that New West has developed a stellar reputation in the Calgary area of providing inspiring and meaningful concerts and I look forward to helping them continue to build their “legacy of blessing”.

I have not yet had the privilege of meeting Jonathan Schorr, but insofar as NWSC is an expression of his heart and life, I certainly have a deep sense of admiration and appreciation for his leadership and vision and the many steps of faith he took to launch this ensemble. I also have not yet had the privilege of meeting all of you, , our members, supporters, and donors, but I deeply appreciate the investments of time, money, talent, and prayer that you have all committed to NWSC. I look forward to meeting you in the days ahead. As you know, our mission is to “bless people of all ages through musical performances that inspire them to join us in supporting excellence in choral music and in meeting the needs of the less fortunate.” We can not accomplish this without you. We are counting on your continued support and we need you. Please join us in these “steps of faith”, and let’s anticipate an exciting new chapter that God is writing for us.

David Klob, NWSC Musical Director, 2015-2016 Season

Introducing David Klob – Musical Director

The Board of Directors and NWSC is thrilled to announce that David Klob has accepted the position of Musical Director for the 2015-2016 season! David comes to us with a high level of musical training and expertise. As past Professor of Music Ministry of Kingswood University in New Brunswick for 14 years, and current Worship and Arts pastor at Calgary’s First Alliance Church, he brings a wide range of knowledge and expertise in all areas of choral music (conducting, recording, producing, touring, etc).
Beyond this, it’s David’s heart for ministry, people and community that make us confident he will guide and direct NWSC with passion in this next year. Through the extensive search and interview process, it became incredibly clear that David understood the important role NWSC plays in the city and community, as well as the heart of who we are as a group. We greatly look forward to having David on our team as we continue to pursue the mission and vision of NWSC, in creating excellence in choral music and helping those around us!
We look forward to seeing each one of you in this next season,
Leanne Wilkie, Interim President and CEO
